Outlaw Paddling

Welcome to the home of ocean paddling in Victoria

Feature Image 1Outlaw Paddling is a joint venture by Victorian ocean paddling experts Wade Vautier (Outlaw), Jarad Kohlar (Peak Adventure and Outlaw).

Wade has been at the forefront of promoting ocean paddling, with the organisation of his largely informal Outlaw series of 2008/2009. The demand for this has outgrown the initial concept however, and has seen necessary the expansion to a professionally managed event series.

Jarad may be better known to some as one of the world's top adventure racers, but his promotion of paddling in the Melbourne area has been hugely beneficial to both the adventure racing and ocean paddling communities. His Peak Adventure ocean paddling training squad, operating out of Sandridge Life Saving Club in Melbourne's inner suburbs, has grown in numbers, but still caters for beginners. The extension of this is to add a criterium series to the Outlaw ocean racing series and provide events to fill the void between ocean racing events.

Together, these two are the men behind the new Outlaw Paddling venture, designed to increase competitor numbers from beginners right through to the elite, and give everyone a racing forum to test their skills.

Outlaw Ocean paddling series

The Outlaw Ocean Paddling Series in Victoria will consist of real downwind ocean racing events. Racers are held throughout the beatiful victorian coast line. The showdown event of this series is the Graeme Long Memerial Event from Anglesea to Torquay.

FINN Outlaw Crit Series

Feature Image 3Providing an important stop-gap in the ocean racing calendar is the FINN Outlaw Criterium Series on the last Friday of every month, held at Sandridge Life Saving Club at Port Melbourne. These races will be on varied courses within the bounds of the protected (albeit choppy and wave-ridden at times) Port Phillip Bay, and will range from 4km (juniors, malibus and stand-up paddleboards) through to 7km (beginner to intermediate), and 9km (open ocean and surf ski). Racers start in October and finish in April.

Expert Advice and Training

Wade and Jarad will all be writing almost exclusively for this website, with training articles and advice for all paddlers from rank beginners right through to experienced athletes. Nobody is too old or too good to learn. Watch the 'advice and articles' section carefully for more details. Feature Image 4

Make the most of it; get out there; get away from the hustle and bustle of city life; get out on the water and experience life. Ocean paddling is a glorious sport and you can so easily be a part of it.
